Why is this needed?
We are preparing for future growth in Fort McMurray. This region is an economic driver of our province and new communities are needed as homes for workers in our oil industries and its supporting businesses. ![]()
Who is involved in this development?
Infrastructure will lead the development of Parsons Creek with input from the Community Development Advisory Board.
Government is developing this area to ensure that the community’s needs are fully met and sustainability is maintained for future generations. This development is aligned with Responsible Actions, Alberta's 20-year strategic plan for the oil sands, which includes plans to accelerate the development of much-needed housing and community services in the Fort McMurray region. www.treasuryboard.alberta.ca/ResponsibleActions.cfm
Revenue generated from the sale of the parcels will be reinvested in public infrastructure like schools and affordable housing in the new communities, making this a cost-effective approach to development.
